The Defence Science Institute and the Joint Innovation Centre of the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), hosted a one day workshop on Biotechnology: Synthetic Biology Applications and Enabling Tools on 27 March 2012 at the University of Melbourne. This workshop brought together defence scientists, academic researchers, as well as researchers from publicly funded organisations and industry.

The Defence Science Institute welcomes Professor Jian Pei from the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, Canada, who is currently in Melbourne to present a number of workshops at the University of Melbourne.

The Defence Science Institute is proudly sponsoring a robotics display as part of the Australian Grand Prix Corporations' 2012 Community Engagement Initiative.

Defence Science Institute participated in the Pacific 2012 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney in February.

 

Professor Walter Bischof from the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta presented a highly successful workshop, entitled "Human Computer Interaction - Towards 2030"

Professor Len Sciacca, Director of DSI, joined a group of high-profile speakers at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute forum 'Maths for the Future' held at ANU in Canberra to discuss ways to encourage young peole to study mathematics.

Congratulations to Dr James McCaw, Assoc Prof James Bailey & Dr Brant Gibson for being awarded the prestigious ARC Future Fellowship.

The Defence Science Institute Seminar Series is designed  to enhance communication between researchers across the industry/university/defence sectors. It will present topics on research capability and  requirements as they impact defence.

As a follow up to the Honorable Andrew Weber’s visit in September 2011, the Defence Science Institute hosted a workshop in October with Dr. Alan Rudolph, Director, Chemical and Biological Technologies Directorate, Research and Development Enterprise, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

In collaboration with Bio21 Institute, the Defence Science Institute hosted a workshop to showcase the capabilities of the Parkville Biomedical Precinct and other research centres to the Honorable Andrew Weber.
