In January 2002, Dr Mann commenced work with CSIRO Division of Plant Industry at the Black Mountain laboratories in Canberra. Her research activities included: a) The application of molecular/genetic analyses to investigate the genes responsible for complex dough attributes; b) Processing of novel cereal grains for maximum health benefit; c) Genetic basis of wheat quality; d) Development of improved analytical methods for key wheat quality traits; and e) Development of a laboratory scale baking facility. She has written numerous papers and conference proceedings on dough rheology, wheat and end product quality.

Dr Mann joined DSTO’s Human Protection and Performance Division in February 2006 as an S&T 7 (corresponding to Principal Research Scientist), as Capability Leader of Defence Nutrition and Food Technology. Dr Mann provided scientific leadership for DSTO’s research programs in Nutrition & Dietetics and Food Science & Technology, and also supervised the management of the freeze dried meal production line. Dr Mann was Australian National Leader of the TTCP international panel dealing with Human Factors in Protection and Sustainability of Cognitive and Physical Performance during 2007 - 2009.

In March 2009, Dr Mann took up a career development position at the DSTO Headquarters as the Director Strategic Planning and Coordination in Science Strategy and Policy Branch. In this role, she involved in the strategic coordination and science planning across DSTO as well as providing policy advice on the defence science and technology capabilities needed to achieve Defence's broad objectives and priorities.

Since September 2011, Dr Mann is developing an enabling research program in Synthetic Biology.

Dr Allison Kealy

Dr Allison Kealy holds a PhD in Geodesy from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and a Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad.   Dr Kealy is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne and Assistant Dean (Academic) within the School of Engineering.   Dr Kealy is Vice President of Commission 4 (Positioning and Navigation) of the International Association of Geodesy and co-chairs a joint working group on ubiquitous positioning systems with the IAG and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG).   Dr Kealy's research interests are in the areas of multi-sensor fusion for positioning, high precision satellite positioning systems, positioning data integrity and wireless sensor networks.   More recently Dr Kealy has been involved in multi disciplinary research in the area of disaster planning, management and recovery receiving $400k of funding in 2011.

Associate Professor Geoff Stuart

Associate Professor Geoff Stuart graduated with a Ph.D in experimental psychology from Monash University in 2006.  He is currently a Senior Research Scientist in the Air Operations Division at DSTO.  He is also a Principal Fellow at the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Associate Professor at La Trobe University.  His research interests include structural and functional neuroimaging, psychiatry, dyslexia, statistical methods/ psychometrics,  and risk analysis. His current research is in the areas of visual perception, visual  attention, and human factors – with particular application to military aviation.
