DARPA Microsystems Technology Office is seeking innovative proposals to develop compact optical detectors with sensitivity below the quantum shot noise limit.

INSPIRED will have two phases (Base and Option), each of 18 months.

Phase 1 – Base – development of central chip-scale photonic devices required for a squeezed-light detector.

Phase 2 – Option – demonstration of squeezed-light detector prototypes with sensitivity exceeding the quantum shot noise limit in a module with volume comparable to commercial photodetector components.

Abstracts are due 20 October 2023, with full proposals due 13 December 2023.
