DARPA is seeking submissions of innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of high-temperature vector magnetometers for high-temperature environments. This μE is issued under the Program Announcement for Microsystems Exploration, DARPA-PA-21-05.

Successful proposals will result in an award of an Other Transaction (OT) for prototype project not to exceed USD$1M.

MagHITS will develop ultra-high-temperature vector magnetometers, producing magnetic sensor proofs of concept applying a probe element that operates at temperatures up to 500 °C, with a sensitivity of 100 pT/√Hz in the bandwidth of 0.1 – 100 Hz.

MagHITS will be an 18-month program with two nine-month phases:

Phase 1 –  heat tolerance and demonstrate the ability to make vector magnetic-field measurements at 500 °C.
Phase 2  –  measurement sensitivity and bandwidth and will demonstrate vector magnetic-field detection with a sensitivity of 100 pT/√Hz, in the frequency range 0.1 – 100 Hz, and at a temperature of 500 °C, simultaneously.

Proposals due 11 May 2023.
