The Non-Destructive Inspection of Redundant Flasks Game Changers Challenge is looking for solutions to verify the contents of individual metal structures (flasks) which have been used to store and transport radioactive materials.
The flasks are currently located at Sellafield, and vary significantly in age, shape, size, mass and radioactivity level.
The challenge is to identify the flask contents and undertake radiometric characterisation without the flasks being moved or damaged.
Up to £10,000 is available for the initial exploration of ideas. Proof of concept funding will be in the range of £30 – 60,000 over 6 – 12 months, with some fund matching being required.
Applications close 26 February 2024.
An information webinar will be held 8 February – register here.
