The ASPIRE program provides funding for Japanese researchers to collaborate with researchers from nominated countries on research into AI and information, biotechnology, energy, quantum, materials, semiconductors or telecommunications.

Depending on the ASPIRE stream, Japanese collaborators can receive up to 500M yen (approx. 5.2M AUD) over 5 years to support their work on the project.

A Japanese ECR on the project must spend 12 months working on the project in the collaborating country and collaborating researchers must be invited to spend time in Japan.

Applications are made by the Japanese researchers.  The international collaborators must have or expect to have secured funding for the project.
