2023 Individual, Family and Care Partners Focus Area
The Individual, Family, and Care-Partner Support Focus Area prioritizes the lived experiences of persons living with AD/ADRD.
This Focus Area targets research that includes, but is not limited to, improvements in long-term care, quality of life, psychosocial wellness and support, and community and home resources supporting aging-in-place and community living for individuals living with dementia, their families, and care partners.
Projects within this focus area should aim for culturally competent strategies, that are responsive to social and structural determinants of health and maintain the dignity of the individual living with dementia and their family/care/social communities.
For this Focus Area, “family” is broadly defined as the family of choice and/or the family of origin. Projects should address questions, interventions, strategies, technologies, and/or tools in the following areas:
• Improving the realities of everyday living with AD/ADRD
• Navigating the AD/ADRD diagnosis and care path throughout the disease progression
• Research into education and integration of care partner/caregiver education in the community
• Improvements to the at-home care of a person living with dementia and their family/care/social communities, or aging in place
• Overcoming care partner/caregiver stress
