The Australian Defence Operations Research Community of Practice (ADORCP) is being established under the auspices of the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) to grow engagement across those working on Australian Defence Operational Research problems.
This Community of Practice will be led by MORS (along with Australian academia and industry Leads) and two senior DSTG members as Co-Leads to help ensure alignment with Defence problems.
All Operations Research practitioners (industry, academia and Government) from senior managers to junior employees will be welcome to join the Community. Members are to have a desire and willingness to work together to contribute to Australia’s national security through Defence Operations Research.
The Community will provide an opportunity to collectively share knowledge and experience to position Australian Defence Operations Research capability to support Defence’s current and future needs, including:
- A forum for communication and collaborating on Australian related issues within the MORS community.
- Regular meetings throughout the year via in‑person and virtual presentations (including during the annual MORS Symposium where possible):
- Identify and develop relevant approaches across the wide range of tools and techniques of relevance to Australia’s Operations Research needs.
- Discuss emerging and completed projects of significance.
- Share Insights, lessons learned, and joint sessions with other MORS Composite Groups and Working Groups such as wargaming, and social science methods and applications.
- Document updates, outcomes, presentations and knowledge to enable broader information sharing.
- Share significant upcoming Operations Research events such as MORS Special Meetings, the Australian Defence Operations Research Symposium, ADSTAR and relevant Defence briefings.
- An interface with the broader Operations Research activities which are related to Australia to facilitate quick response collaboration.
- An interactive website allowing sharing of ideas and Southern Cross related Operations Research capabilities and activities within the MORS Community.
ADORCP meet-ups will be held via Teams and are open to non-MORS members.
The first meet-up was held 18 February 2026, where Dr Lisa Blumson from DSTG presented on From Errors to Events: Maximising the Value of Data at all Stages of Simulation Development Through Advances in Modern Analytical Techniques.
