Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) is looking to fill the position of Discipline Leader in Ocean Environment and Acoustics in the Sonar Technology and Systems Branch in South Australia.
The selected candidate will lead, supervise, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team who conduct research and provide specialist advice to Defence on the impact of the undersea environment on underwater acoustics, with emphasis on exploiting knowledge of the environment to optimise performance of underwater sensor systems, particularly sonar.
DSTG is seeking a person who is passionate about science and technology relating to the undersea environment and physics of underwater acoustics, and is motivated to lead a small team developing techniques to improve underwater sensing through exploitation of undersea environmental and system knowledge. You will understand the importance of effective supervision and mentoring for staff, and be able to balance priorities between client needs and underpinning research. You will also have a high level of initiative and aptitude for working in a multidisciplinary environment, and be able to develop and sustain external linkages with industry, academia, and international organisations.
