DEC is seeking technical and commercial input from Australian companies, research organisations and subject matter experts to inform Australia’s positions ahead of the Wassenaar Arrangement Experts Group meeting in September 2026.
The Wassenaar Arrangement is a multilateral export control regime comprising 42 Participating States. It promotes transparency and responsibility in transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies.
Australia is currently reviewing proposals relating to advanced and emerging technologies, including
- semiconductors and advanced packaging
- quantum technologies and photonics
- unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous systems and communications
- space technologies
- advanced and energetic materials
- related manufacturing equipment and processes
DEC welcomes input from organisations and individuals with relevant technical, research, manufacturing, commercial, supply-chain or regulatory experience.
Stakeholders may be invited to provide written feedback or participate in targeted consultations on proposals relevant to their expertise. DEC is seeking evidence and advice on matters such as:
- Whether proposed thresholds and technical parameters are clear, practical and technically appropriate
- Whether a proposed control could capture widely available commercial products or legitimate research activities
- The availability of equivalent goods, technologies or capabilities in international markets
- Potential impacts on Australian industry, research, innovation, competitiveness and supply chains
- Potential licensing, compliance or administrative burdens
- Alternative thresholds or wording that could better achieve the intended security objective
- Australian research, development and industrial capabilities relevant to current or future Australian proposals.

Proposal information or targeted technical questions may be provided, subject to applicable information-handling requirements.
Please do not include classified, security-sensitive, export-controlled or commercially sensitive technical information in your initial email. Appropriate arrangements can be discussed before detailed information is provided.
