DSTG is seeking a partner to develop two optical terminals (TRL 5 or above) to stabilise an optical point-to-point link for time transfer applications, for deployment at an international Defence trial in 2026. This will involve supporting a month-long experimental campaign at the start of Q3 2025 at DSTG Edinburgh or another suitable location, and delivery of the terminals to DSTG Edinburgh by the end of Q4 2025.
The successful partner will undertake a month-long testing campaign with the optical links which will include, at a minimum, demonstration of a sustained optical link across a static 1.5 km horizontal free-space range at DSTG Edinburgh. Additional testing options provided by the partner, such as ground-to-drone, or ground-to-vehicle, as well as experience with field deploying free-space optical communication terminals and atmospheric turbulence characterisation, will be viewed favourably.
Available funds are estimated to be between $775,000 to $852,500 (GST incl).
