Businesses which import goods for use in approved space projects may be eligible for tariffs on those goods to be duty-free.
Authorised projects must be pre-approved and involve activities between parties from Australia and other countries that include
- joint investment
- research or manufacturing
- supply of equipment or technologies
Projects must be in one of the following areas:
- exploration of outer space
- remote sensing
- material processing in space
- space medicine and biology
- space communications and information technologies
- satellite navigation systems and technologies
- automated and manned space apparatus and systems and corresponding ground equipment
- protection of outer space environment
- space launch services
and be accompanied by an Australian Industry Participation plan
